Chippi & Co - A burgeoning made-in-green brand

We, Chippi & Co, are happy to be a brand native to various products made from fabrics that are GOT-certified and Oeko-Tex Certified.

ABOUT GOTS

GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard - an internationally recognized certification. The certification can apply to either products or to the entire company, or to both.

Companies seeking this certification have to meet a number of different requirements for criteria covering “production, processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, exportation, importation and distribution of all natural fibre products.”

WHAT DOES IT MEANS TO CHIPPICO WHEN WE ARE GOTS-CERTIFIED?

It means more than a whole lot for us, Chippi & Co, and our customers, including:

1. Requiring that at least 90% of fibers be certified organic (ours are 100%);
2. No chemicals proven to harm humans or the environment are used at any stage of the textile production process;
3. Water used must be treated to a very high standard before release;
4. Certain worker safety and worker rights issues are honored, including no child or slave labor and a certain minimal level of safe working conditions (Still a prominent problem in textile production.)

Although it does not explicitly refers to carbon footprint, a GOTS certified FABRIC is the best choice by far, carbon wise right now. Exponentially better than recycled polyester, for instance, or of conventional cotton fabric. (See our FAQ about carbon footprint if you're interested.).

Fabrics made from organic fibers which have been processed conventionally can be – and almost always is – full of residual toxic chemicals – and its production may have released tons of chemicals into the environment; its carbon footprint stinks and worker safety is suspect.

OEKO-TEX CERTIFIED CHIPPI & CO

The Oeko-Tex 100 certification awarded to Chippi & Co does emphasize rigorous testing for a list of chemicals which are known or suspected to be dentrimental to health, including lead, antimony, arsenic, phthalates, pesticides, and chlorinated phenols.

The official table of limits for tested chemicals may be found on the Oeko-Tex website. Chippico's wear line is made from fabrics free from:

  • All flame retardants
  • Carcinogenic and allergy-inducing dyes
  • Pesticides
  • Chlorinated phenols
  • Chloro-organic benzenes and toluenes
  • Heavy metals
  • Organotin compounds (TBT and DBT)
  • Formaldehyde

Moreoever, Oeko-Tex certified fabrics are required to have a skin friendly pH. If you remember your high school chemistry, pH is the indication of the level of acidity or base (salt). Skin's natural pH is a tad acidic, and when it's eroded your defenses are down, leaving you vulnerable to bacteria, moisture loss, and irritation.

Chippi & Co wear line will offer nothing less than lovely against you and your little angel's skin.
